Shashthi (Sanskrit: Ṣaṣṭhī) also referred to as Chhath is the sixth day or tithi of a Paksha or fourteen-day phase of the moon. This day is dedicated to Lord Subramanya or Skanda and Devasena (Shashthi).
Lord Skanda is a 2nd son of Lord Shiva, he is a senadipathi of Devas, Lord Krishna says in the Bhadavad Gita “Among the army generals, I am Skanda”
Shashthi or Shashti is folk goddess, in some puranas, she is also protrayed as one of the consort of Skanda, venerated as the benefactor and protector of children (especially, as the giver of male child). She is also the deity of vegetation and reproduction and is believed to bestow children and assist during childbirth.
